Jacki Marsh grew up a shy, insecure girl in an age when there were many false barriers set for women. Running was her way to cope and to gain confidence. She organized races in her neighborhood against much older kids and won. With no public funding for women's athletics, at age twelve, she began running with a private running club - The San Jose Cindergals.

When Jacki started competitive running in 1967, women were not allowed to compete in distances longer than a mile and a half for fear that they would collapse under the strain. By age 14, Jacki was regularly running 100 miles a week as training. In 1972, at the age of 17, Jacki won the world's first all women's road race, the Legg's Mini-Marathon, 6 miles through New York's Central Park. Three weeks later on June 23rd, 1972, Title XI was signed into law.

Come celebrate following your passion and get encouraged to chase your own dreams.

Please join Jennie Milner and Maria Singleton for a discussion about our Southern border with Mexico, building connections through art, and Humanitarian Aid. We’ll discuss how art can open minds and why we all need to be involved in our own way. Jennie, an Artworks Loveland mural artist, will share her experience painting in Ajo with the International Sonoran Desert Alliance and painters from three nations. Maria is an artist and Samaritan who lives in Ajo, Arizona in the winter when the remains of migrants trying to cross the border in southern Arizona are found on the average of 1 every 3 days. Maria’s friend, Dr. Scott Warren, is facing twenty years in prison for giving water, food, and first aid to Honduran asylum seekers. We’ll talk about his trial and the trial of other humanitarians, and have a conversation about how we can all help.
